Why does my Bose QC35 mic not work?

It only has a static sound when I switch to headset in Control Panel-> Sound. If it set it to Headphones then it’s fine I would ask/ tell Bose support then. What I assume is that the ANC is causing that static noise when you are using the mic. I assume you are connecting via bluetooth. There is no way to get good quality audio and use the mic.
